Can you believe it’s only been one week? What a whirlwind of a week it was. Once more, thank you so much for supporting us. After only one week we have 600+ backers and enough funding to make our idea come to life. That’s all thanks to you guys. Thank you!
At this point we are transitioning from focusing on getting the word out to a broader audience to focusing on the community we have here. That means getting to know you all and answering your questions. If you haven’t already, consider saying hello in the forums over at www.maslowcnc.com/forums. We’re already sharing ideas for projects we want to build and swapping design improvements.
The number one question we have gotten over the last week is about the possibility of a z-axis. We hear you, and we’ve got some details. First, we are currently working on a z-axis add on. We are aiming to have it available to ship in the same box with the rest of your kit if you would like, and the cost will be around $60. The z-axis add on consists of a gearbox/motor/encoder combination which can be used to automatically adjust the depth of your router.
Because every router is different, we’ve done our best to make the design flexible. The output shaft on the gearbox is offset from the center allowing it to be mounted close to the body of your router, and the mounting brackets will feature the maximum number of adjustments possible to allow you to make them fit your router.
Even with as flexible a design as we can build, we can’t guarantee that every router will work. If you ask about a specific router, we will do our best to answer, but without hands on experience it can be hard to tell which ones will work best. We will be making a video soon in which we discuss the strengths and weaknesses of different router types so that you can make an informed decision.
In other news, we are so excited to announce the educational institutions who have been selected to win a free Maslow after the first week of voting! Thank you for helping to spread the word about the contest and nomination process. We now have many more nominations than machines available, but more nominations are always welcome! As always, we want to get Maslow into as many hands as possible.
Without further ado, the winners this week are…
- Somers Middle School in Somers, New York
- Quail Lake Environmental Charter School in Clovis, California
- Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology in Conyers, Georgia
- E.A. Young Academy in Richland Hills, Texas
